The Chrysalis Initiative

We proudly introduce you to our newest partner, The Chrysalis Initiative, whose mission is to help people impacted by breast cancer receive comprehensive care and support and reduce their vulnerability to disparities.

Breast cancer disparities is a multi-layered and complex issue, a blend of numerous contributing factors including personal risk, inherited or genetic risk, social determinants of health, healthcare delivery barriers, and implicit biases.

According to The Chrysalis Initiative, when compared with White women, implicit bias, and structural racism result in a 40% higher rate of mortality from breast cancer in Black patients. Black women are often diagnosed at later stages when treatments are limited, costly or prognosis is poorer; and are often diagnosed younger with more aggressive breast cancers.

Jamil Rivers and her team established The Chrysalis Initiative in 2019. They work to help patients address any breast cancer disparities and breast health inequities. Their aim is to provide patients with education and barrier intervention that will help reduce the impact of existing inequalities in breast cancer outcomes.
